Creating nature inspired spaces to live within and alongside.

As part of a special topics studio art class on digital art and fabrication, I created a series of designs and finally a model inspired by growth in nature and how is interfaces with our every day lives.

Model

Through the exploration of the relationship between the natural world and how we interact with our day to day surroundings, I decided to make a chair as my final project. The form of the chair was inspired by shapes found in nature. Incorporating a smooth continuous wooden surface was crucial to my vision. I experimented with kerning plywood to achieve this, but ended up going with a steam bent piece of bending ply wood as it resulted in a much lighter final product.
